Where New Zealand is famed for the intense yellow patterns often seen in its flower jades, not many people realise that there's a nephrite jade variant of exceptional rarity out there that possesses a true yellow colour as the body-tone of the jade itself. Known as butter jade, this yellow jade can occur as a piece with a solid yellow colour, or incorporated with jade of other hues in the same stone. This piece ccame from a larger stone showing the same admixture of beautiful butter yellows and grey-green striping as in this piece - a compbination which is as striking as it is rare and unusual.
Measuring in at 46mm long and 34mm wide at its widest point, this piece has been carved into the simple form of a guitar-pick - a shape that both made best use of the stone and has allowed it to show off its striking colours and patterns to best effect. A wonderful piece for the connoisseur of the strange and unusual, you're not likely to see another cof its ilk for many years to come; if ever. Size-wise, it's small and light enough to suit pretty much any size of wearer.
