A form very traditional to the Pacific nations the niho mako or shark's tooth is an iconic addition to an array of traditional Maori and Islander designs. This small niho mako pendant has been carved from an excellent piece of rhodonite sourced from Akatore on New Zealand's West Coast - an example showcasing the vivid pinks and intricate patterns which it can often display.
Measuring in at 35mm long and 26mm wide, this is an elegant and petite pendant perfectly suited to either the smaller wearer or to someone who likes their jewellery to be of a more portable size. It's simplicity and the robustness of its carving has ensured that it's structurally strong enough to handle even the kind of beating that a child wearer could give it; and yet its beautiful tones make it a piece just as fully suited to an older and more mature wearer.
